Cape Town, South Africa – November 2024:
Respected businessman, and CEO of Kata Strategic Investments and avid golfer Khalid Abdulla is set to embark on an extraordinary journey to Antalya, Türkiye, to represent South Africa in the prestigious Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series Grand Finals.
Abdulla, 59, secured his spot in this global showcase after an exceptional performance at the Cape Town leg of the competition held at the picturesque De Zalze Golf Estate in Stellenbosch, He will be setting off this week to participate in the tournament from the 1st to 7th December next week. Competing against a field of talented amateur golfers, Abdulla’s composed and consistent play earned him the top spot, edging out runner-up Armand Burger and third-place finisher Anees Dawood at the Cape Town event.
The Grand Finals will take place at the renowned Gloria Serenity Golf Resort in Antalya, on the Turkish Golf Coast, bringing together 120 winners from 117 tournaments across 73 countries. Since its inception in 2013, the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup has become one of the most celebrated events in amateur golf, attracting over 8,000 players from around the globe each year.
Reflecting on his achievement, Abdulla expressed his excitement and gratitude:
“This is truly an incredible opportunity, and I feel honoured to represent South Africa on such a prestigious stage. Golf has always been a passion of mine, and to now compete at this level is both thrilling and humbling. I’m looking forward to playing among some of the best amateur golfers in the world and showcasing South African talent.”
Having enjoyed over two decades of golf as a social player, Abdulla recently returned to the sport with renewed vigor after taking an executive gap year from a successful business career. He credits the game for helping him reconnect with family and friends while offering a unique avenue for personal relaxation and professional networking.
“Golf is more than just a game for me,” he added. “It’s a way to clear my mind, strengthen relationships, and create cherished memories – especially playing with my close friends and alongside my son regularly. This experience is a culmination of passion, practice, and perseverance.”
