Hello, I’m Khalid. My story is one of many chapters, each filled with its own set of challenges, victories, and learning moments.
From the vibrant streets of Harfield Village to the boardrooms of some of South Africa’s most impactful companies. My journey has been deeply influenced by a commitment to change management, corporate governance, and nurturing leadership skills in myself and others.
Growing up in a community-centric household, my early experiences in my family’s cinema, café and music store taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and the joy of connecting with people.
These values have been my guiding stars, steering me through the complexities of business leadership.
Joining African Equity Empowerment Investments Limited (AEEI) in 1999 and eventually leading it as Group CEO was a journey of immense growth. It was here that I deeply engaged with change management and corporate governance and stakeholder engagements.
Guiding the company to new heights and overseeing the listing of two of our subsidiaries, this period was a testament to what can be achieved with a clear vision and dedication.
My leadership philosophy is simple: lead with humility and be ready to serve and learn at every opportunity.
Effective leadership isn’t just about making decisions, it’s about implementation through active listening, adapting, and empowering those around you to achieve their best.
Beyond the boardroom, my passion lies in mentoring young minds and supporting initiatives that uplift our communities.
It’s through sharing our experiences and knowledge that we can inspire the next generation to embrace business leadership with a sense of purpose and responsibility. I have also mentored UCT MBA Students between 2012 and 2016.
