I launched the Cycle for Change initiative three years ago, and it has been one of my most fulfilling endeavors. I created it out of my passion for cycling and my deep-seated desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate. With my extensive commercial experience and strategic mindset, I believe that great leadership skills and business acumen come with the responsibility to give back to society. This belief drove me to merge my love for cycling with my commitment to social responsibility.
Each year, I participate in various provincial cycle races, which includes the 109km Cape Town Cycle Tour, and using this event as a platform to raise funds for underprivileged communities.
Over the past 3 years, with the generous support of my network of friends, family and associates, we have raised over three hundred thousand rands towards the Saartjie Baartman Centre for women and Children, the Falaah Foundation NPC and Lelliebloem House, Child and Youth Centre.
To date, this initiative has benefitted various worthy organisations and programmes, including support for victims of gender-based violence, couselling, legal support and recovery skills, as well as the well-being of children and youth. Through the Falaah foundation NPC, more than 32500 people from impoverished, orphaned, and destitute communities have been fed through their cooking and feeding schemes,
My journey in the corporate world has equipped me with invaluable skills in strategy, corporate governance, corporate finance, and change management. These skills have been instrumental in organizing and managing the Cycle for Change initiative. My qualifications from the University of Cape Town, UNISA and my time at BDO Spencer Steward provided me with a strong foundation in business leadership and strategic planning. I have always aimed to create a significant impact through my work, whether in corporate settings or community initiatives. My experience in leadership strategy and deal-making has been crucial in forging partnerships and securing the necessary support for the Cycle for Change.
Throughout my career, I have received several prestigious business and sports awards. These include the All Africa Business Leader Award (AABLA), the SA 2030 Future Maker – Driver for Change Award, the Global Leadership Excellence Award, the Top CEO Africa Award, the Absa Bank Kaelo Award, and recognitions from the Financial Mail and the Black Business Executive Circle (BBEC), as well as SA most Empowered Business Leader of the year. These accolades are not just personal milestones but also a testament to the collective effort of my broader team and supporters. The Cycle for Change initiative is not just about raising funds; it’s about creating momentum.
Each year, the support from our donors and the dedication of our volunteers overwhelm me. The funds raised directly impact the lives of many, providing meals and hope to those who need it most. As we look to the future, I feel more determined than ever to expand the reach of the Cycle for Change and other initiatives. I call upon each one of you to join me in this journey. Your continued support and your own separate initiatives and generosity can help us reach more communities and provide more meals to those in need.
